Byzantine
Please note I am no longer selling items on line. My work can be found in exclusive outlets or you can email me for details of my latest pieces.

Commissions are always welcome.

'Byzantine Jewellery' is soley run by myself. All my pieces are hand crafted using only the best quality components.

The main component I use within my work is lampwork glass beads and I am completely passionate about them!! I only buy from artisans who are recognized by the UK and International Lampworkers Society. Please see below for a brief description on how 'Lampworking' is done.

I also use semi-precious stones, beautiful swarovski crystals, freshwater pearls and gems.

In the future I may do the odd piece of gold but primarily my pieces will only be used with high quality silver of which is normally 97-99% content.

I also understand that we all come in different shapes and sizes; so if you see something which you would like but wish it was a little shorter or longer then please contact me!

If you have any questions about me or my pieces please use the contact page:

   Many thanks..

About Lampwork Beads

'For centuries, glass has been melted and formed into beads in the flame
of an oil lamp - hence the term 'lampwork'.
Today, we use a mixture of gas and oxygen for a cleaner, hotter flame.
The variety and quality of glass now available to the flameworker is
amazing - opaque, transparent, streaky, opalino, dichroic,
borosilicate, and silver-rich, with it's beautiful iridescent effects.
The process of making a bead has not changed, however. Molten glass is
wound around a steel rod, coated with bead release. While molten, the
glass may be shaped with gravity or using tools such as marvers or
presses. Decoration can be applied with frit, stringers, twisties or
 murrini.
Once finished, the bead must be annealed in a temperature controlled
kiln. Annealing is a very important process - it allows the bead to
cool slowly, relieving stresses within the glass and ensuring strength
 and durability.
Flameworked beads are prized by designers for their beauty and
originality'.
